DIY Mailbox Flower Garden from Reclaimed Materials

June 4, 2023 by Michelle Leave a Comment

In this video, my nephew and I give these rescued containers a new lease on life, saving them from ending up in a dumpster.

In this exciting DIY gardening journey, my nephew and I embark on a mission to revamp the area around my mailbox. Armed with paintbrushes, landscape fabric, and vibrant purslane flowers, we encounter a few hurdles along the way. However, with a dash of problem-solving and a lot of creativity, we transform this space into a blooming masterpiece that showcases the beauty of repurposing and recycling.

Coating and Painting: The project started with coating and painting the containers. Although we faced a few challenges during this step, they were no match for our problem-solving skills. With a touch of patience and determination, we overcame the obstacles and transformed the containers into a blank canvas ready to be brought to life.

Lining and Planting: Once the painting was complete, it was time to line the insides of the containers with landscape fabric. This step not only helped with moisture retention but also ensured proper drainage. With the foundation in place, I eagerly began the planting process. The newly-made flower boxes were filled with nutrient-rich soil, creating a perfect environment for the vibrant purslane flowers to thrive.

A Burst of Color: As the purslane flowers took root and bloomed, my mailbox area underwent a stunning transformation. The once mundane space now burst with a vibrant display of colors, adding a delightful pop of cheer to the surroundings. The sight of the blossoming purslane flowers will now greet me every time I check the mail!

A Testament to Creativity and Repurposing: This DIY project served as a testament to the power of repurposing and recycling. With a little imagination and effort, we transformed ordinary containers into beautiful additions to my garden. It was a gratifying experience to witness how creativity and resourcefulness can breathe new life into everyday objects.

This project taught me that even in the face of challenges, the final result is undoubtedly worth the effort. My nephew did a great job as he trimmed, drilled, and spray-painted these containers in his first-ever project of this kind. I'm really proud of him and thrilled with his help on this project!

Happy gardening, everyone!
