🌿 Tips for Growing Citrus In Pots!
Growing citrus in containers can be incredibly rewarding, but it does come with a learning curve. Here are a few key lessons:
Choose a pot that drains well and holds enough volume — citrus hates soggy roots, but it also needs consistent moisture. That’s why self-watering containers (with proper wicking) can be a game-changer.
Use a high-quality, well-draining soil mix with plenty of organic matter and a bit of perlite or pine bark to keep the roots happy.
Feed regularly — citrus are heavy feeders, especially in containers. A slow-release citrus fertilizer or a balanced liquid feed every few weeks in growing season makes a huge difference.
Rotate the container every few weeks to encourage even sun exposure and balanced growth.
Protect from freezes — container citrus is more vulnerable in winter, so having a rolling planter lets you move it easily to a warmer wall or covered area.
Keep experimenting, keep observing, and don’t be afraid to course-correct — citrus is forgiving if you give it the basics.

About Michelle In The Meadow
I'm growing on a 1/4 acre suburban lot. I started gardening here 6 years ago and am glad you are here.
We have more than 80 individual fruit trees and shrubs and more than a dozen different kinds of annuals growing on this property. The slopes make for some interesting ways to garden, but we're trying to make the best of it.
On the first Sunday evening of each month (7PM Eastern), I go live on YouTube sharing updates and answering your questions.
If you enjoyed this video, please give it a thumbs up and consider subscribing to follow along on all the happenings in my Northeast Florida Zone 9B Garden. Until next time, my friends, remember to drink plenty of water, wear high-quality sunscreen and have a fantastic day.
