Why I Love My Birdies Raised Garden Bed
I’ve had this installed in my garden now for 20 months, and you can check out my YouTube Channel to see all the updates for a more in-depth look or check out the full table below.
Easy To Assemble Garden Bed
The Birdies Garden Bed was easy to assemble by myself. It would have been a bit easier with help, but I could still do it alone. All you need is a screwdriver because now the Birdies beds include a wrench to hold the nuts. A power driver or electric drill with a screw bit would make that even faster.
Once the bed was assembled, I had a little help and moved it into place in my garden.
I’ve since added 9 additional Birdies Beds to the garden. On the NEXT GEN version, I did have some help, which made assembly even easier.
A Perfect Raised Garden Bed For Seniors
I chose the 30″ Tall 8-in-1 Raised Bed option. It makes planting, watering, and harvesting so much easier. Because I am in my 50s and I want to garden for decades to come, I won’t need to bend down or kneel on the ground to do the work and this model gives me nearly 25 square feet of gardening space.
Durable Metal Raised Garden Bed
The Birdies garden beds have been on the market and tested for more than 15 years, and they are still holding up in their original installations with years of life left. Made from Aluzinc galvanized 24-gauge Australian made steel, the panels are sturdy. They feel even stronger than the tin roof panels you can buy at the big box stores.
Modern Look and Design
Birdies Garden Products was the first to market garden beds with a more modern look and design, with no sharp corners. I have built other types of garden beds and will likely test more, but the aesthetic of this style bed is by far my favorite. And with various colors available, I can choose something that looks right in my yard’s landscape.
No Toxic Chemicals Leaching Into The Soil
Unlike wooden beds treated to prevent rot and resist pests, the Birdies metal beds are powder coated with non-toxic USDA-approved paint to resist damage, rust, and rot.
Is Birdies an Affordable Garden Bed?
Yes, because of the expected lifespan of the bed, it is cheaper than building a garden bed out of cedar or another naturally rot-resistant wood. It is an investment, but with an expected life of at least 15 years, it works out to about $20 per year for the largest beds available.
To be clear, a metal raised garden bed is more expensive than pressure-treated lumber, but those beds must be rebuilt one or more times to match the durability – and they have been chemically treated. If you’re growing your food because you want it to be healthier, you probably wouldn’t even consider using pressure-treated lumber.
