I was long overdue updating this raised bed, so lets do some experimenting.

I plant 3 ways and we'll see how we did in a future video.

I probably broke every rule, but here are some tips from Gemini AI on how to start onions from seed and from starts:

Growing your own onions and shallots in Florida is a cool project, especially since you plant them when the weather is cooler, usually between September and December. The trick is that Florida doesn't get a ton of daylight in the winter, so you have to choose “short-day” varieties of onions. These are special types that are bred to grow big bulbs with less sunlight.

You have two main ways to get started: planting from seeds or using transplants.

Seeds vs. Transplants

Starting with seeds is for the person who wants to be in on the whole process from the very beginning. You can find way more kinds of onions as seeds, which is great if you want to try something different. You'd start the seeds indoors around September, and they'll look like tiny green chives. After they've grown for about a couple of months, you can move them outside to the garden in November. It takes more time, but it's pretty satisfying to watch them go from a tiny speck to a full-grown plant.

Starting with transplants is the fast track. Transplants are basically baby onion plants that are already a few inches tall, and you can buy them from a nursery or online. This method gives you a huge head start on the season and a better chance for a solid harvest. When you plant them, just make sure to cover the bottom part with dirt and leave the top part sticking out. This gives the onion bulb plenty of room to get nice and round.
