The Vego Garden Cover System https://michelleinthemeadow.com/vego
This morning, I grabbed the camera and got to work on a few things that have needed to “get done” in the Meadow. I really don't like to call them Garden Chores, because really, for me, they are not chores at all. They are joys to do. Being outside, hands in dirt, listening to bees and birds, seeing the progress, it is all just a joy.
A couple of things I mention in the video, I thought I'd add tips for here:
Is Sweet Alyssum Easy To Grow?
Sweet alyssum (Lobularia maritima) is generally considered a very easy plant to grow, making it a popular choice for gardeners of all levels. It is known for its forgiving nature and ability to thrive in a variety of conditions.
This low-maintenance annual, sometimes a short-lived perennial in warmer climates, produces an abundance of dainty, honey-scented flowers. It's well-suited for garden beds, borders, containers, and hanging baskets, often spilling charmingly over edges.
Care Considerations:
Watering: Consistent watering is beneficial, especially for plants in containers or during hot, dry weather. However, avoid overwatering, as soggy conditions can lead to problems. Older varieties tend to be more drought-tolerant than newer hybrids.
Fertilizing: Sweet alyssum are moderate feeders. A time-release fertilizer at planting or a water-soluble fertilizer when blooms are spent can stimulate new growth. However, overly rich soil might lead to more foliage than flowers.
Heat Tolerance: As a cool-season annual, some varieties may stop blooming during the peak of summer heat. However, many newer hybrids have been bred for improved heat tolerance. Often, plants will revive and rebloom as temperatures cool in the fall.
When is the best time to start corn in Florida?
Here's a breakdown of the typical corn planting seasons in Florida:
North Florida: The prime planting window is from February to April. Planting should occur after the last danger of frost has passed.
Central Florida: The main planting season is from January to April. Some sources suggest a potential second planting opportunity in August, although this can be a gamble due to summer storms and increased pest activity.
South Florida: The longest planting season runs from October to March.
